Great Western Greenway
( Includes the parts where I got lost. )
The Great Western Greenway is a 49km greenway on the west coast of Ireland. It starts somewhere in Westport and travels through stunning landscapes out to Achill Island. This page includes both the Greenway Route and my short exploration of Achill Island the following day.
Map showing the route from Westport out to Keel on Achill. Note the last several miles are currently on road as the greenway doesn’t yet extend the full way to Keel.
On day 2 I visit Achill Henge, a bizarre Stonehenge recreation in concrete and also Keel Bay, frequently voted as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
