Seefin-dunnywater 6mile loop
Route Map (Harvey Maps, Hiiker)
This is a great beginner level mountain walk with a good mix of terrain. Don’t underestimate it tough as it has a few sweaty climbs and plenty of places to slip and trip. It’s similar in difficulty to climbing Doan from OTT carpark.
Park at the entrance to Dunnywater, at roadside lay-bys or there is more parking 1mile along the road at Carricklittle.
The Route starts on road before quickly following a dirt road that turns into a narrow trail. First challenge is the climb up round Seefin (231m), but you are immediately rewarded with panoramic views of the Mournes and coastline. A long steady climb follows up along Long Seefin and around the back of Rocky Mountain. If you’re feeling energetic add a climb to the summit of Rocky (525m).
Descend to Hare’s Castle and enjoy the views out over the Annalong Valley. From Hare’s descend down to the river keeping an eye out for a secret hidden waterfall along the way. Follow the left side of the river back to Dunnywater, which is where the tunnel that runs under Binnian starts, see if you can spot the entrance.
Follow the tarmac road back to the Dunnywater entrance and you’re done!
